In January, we will begin our 9th year of offering Block of the Month Club. Every year, I think that it is going to be challenging to find a quilt that I love as much as the previous one. But, somehow it always seems to be out there and this year is no exception. The MEMORIES OF PROVENCE fabrics from Maywood give this quilt a French Provincial look and it is beautiful! As in the past, our Block of the Month Club meets the 2nd Thursday of the month and the following Saturday. The first meeting in 2012 will be Thursday, January 12th at 6 pm or Saturday, January 14th at 9 am. You may attend either time each month (which ever fits into your schedule that particular month).

     In the 3rd month, by paying the above amount monthly - along with the monthly blocks - you will have paid for and will receive the fabric and instructions for 20 Alternate Blocks that are used in the setting of the quilt. This will allow you to be working on these blocks throughout the remainder of the 9 months.

Last 9 months (March - December) each        $16.50 plus tax
     By paying the above amount March - December, along with the monthly blocks, your Border Kit will be paid for and you will receive it with the December kit.

So with my renewed hope that I can keep up with more regular posts, please check back often and more importantly - let me know you have stopped by.

I want to share the following with you because I know that, for the most part, those who read this blog are women and you need to plaster the following on your bathroom mirror or refrigerator to be reminded of this regularly.

3 Habits Men Have Right

(Taken from Vim & Vigor, Fall 2010)

While women may appear to have all the answers when it comes to living a long, healthy life, there are a few habits they can learn from men. Debbie Mandel, author of Additcted to Stress: A Woman's 7-Step Program to Reclaim Joy and Spontaneity in Life, lists three:

1. Men use their free time to unwind. "If a man has a few minutes to spare, he puts his feet up," Mandel says. "Women look to their to-to list instead of relaxing."

2. Men express what they want around the house. "Women are more silent and suppressed at home and this stress can lead to cardiovascular problems," Mandel says.

3. Men know how to delegate. "Women are raised to be caregivers," Mandel says. "They are sandwiched between their kids and husband, and her parents and his parents. There is a 25% increased risk of mortality associated with a stressful caregiver role. AND for the final statement........"Women need to make time for themselves."

So ladies, I needed to hear that. What about you? We need to make time for ourselves! Take time to do something you truly enjoy and consider relaxing. Make it a resolution for yourself that beginning this week, you will take time for yourself. Schedule it! Look forward to it! Don't let anything get in the way of it! I know it is difficult. I am working on this too. But YOU are probably the ROAD BLOCK that needs to be dealt with. Yup, sad but true. We will always have something that tries to get in the way, but we just can't let it. We can work on this together. If you live close enough, join us on Thursday evenings in September (5-9 p.m.) for Thursday Nite Lites! We had so much fun with doing a Mystery Quilt last year that we have decided to do another one. We will be having our Kick – Off Party at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6th. The directions will come to you in the mail every 2 weeks beginning with July 6th and ending the week of September 14th. The quilt finishes 62” x 62”; however, you can add borders to make it larger. One more thing! Next Monday, December 7th, we will begin our 12 Days of Christmas. We are adding a twist this year. We know that having DAILY IN-STORE SPECIALS can be difficult for those of you who live a distance away.....SO......we are adding a little fun to the 12 Days of Christmas. We have purchased plenty of stockings for everyone. See them lined up here just waiting to be STUFFED!

That's right...STUFFED. We are giving you the option of participating in our daily specials by either coming in each day OR you can simply call and say "STUFF that daily special item in my STOCKING". These items will be announced each evening (the day before the item is discounted). We will send a quick little email each evening around 6 p.m. and if you want to add that item to your stocking, all you have to do is send us an email telling us to add it! Then on Tuesday, Dec. 22nd or Thursday, Dec. 24th before Christmas, send Santa to pick it up! Santa may even decide to add a few items to the bag...maybe a SEW BIZ Gift Certificate, a quilt magazine, a sewing machine (don't worry - we will get a bigger stocking!) This will be lots of fun and certainly a great way to save some $$$$ because all of the items will be at least 25% OFF! This Block of the Month program will guide you in getting the most out of your sewing machine. A variety of techniques, including couching, pintucks, cording, fringe, bobbin work, and chenille will add special touches to the appliquéd blocks. Learn to use those fabulous accessory feet and built-in stitches while creating a beautiful 85” x 93” quilt. All machines are welcome; embroidery is optional. $50 one time registration fee includes 5 yds. of background fabric used in the blocks. We will have a Kick-off event to begin this NEW 9 week Christmas Mystery Quilt - Hoagy Carmichael “Stardust”. At the party you will receive your fabric pack for the quilt top and your 1st set of instructions. After that, each Thursday (beginning Oct. 1) we will mail (or email) you the next set of instructions. Your last set of instructions will arrive around Nov. 20th. This will allow you plenty of time to complete the quilt before the Holidays! The quilt measures approx. 69” x 87”. You will have 2 color-ways to choose from and the class will be limited to 18 people. That’s really all that I can tell - the rest is A MYSTERY! But take it from me, it is beautiful! The cost is $125 for the kit and all of the instructions. You can save $10 by registering to receive the instructions via email. Reminder: class is limited to 18 people.

Community Service Project - We need your HELP!

Now through October 16th, we will be accepting non-perishable food items for local food pantries. We invite you to join us by bringing in items to be added to our stack - we are hoping to build a mountain of food!

Along with this project, we invite you to use some of your scrap fabrics to make a quilt block. We will be using the CORN & BEANS block pictured here and we will send you the instructions. Please call us or email us at sewbiz@indy.rr.com . After you have made the block, mail it to us prior to Oct. 6. SEW BIZ, 3722 S. Western Ave., Marion, IN 46953 and we will be combining them to make several lap size throws to be donated to those in need.

Join us for a Class

We have added 2 classes for the Harvest Quilt Embroidered Placemat. Monday, September 28th from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 6 -9:00 p.m. We will be using the Anita Goodesign disk - Harvest Quilt. This disk has 80 designs and includes pumpkins, apples, leaves and other Fall embroidery designs in several sizes. It also includes outlines for machine quilting. We will be introducing you to a great new way to do 'applique in the hoop' that is not included in the directions from Anita Goodesign. Join us for a fun and informative time of EMBROIDERY IN THE HOOP - APPLIQUE! Call the store to register for either of these classes.

I wanted to congratulate the winners of our drawing for the Quilters Hall of Famer Celebration door prizes. 1st Prize went to Angi Swan, Anderson, IN ($40 Sew Biz Gift Certificate), 2nd Prize - Donna Wickham, Marion, IN ($25 Sew Biz Gift Certificate), and 3rd Prize - Betty Lloyd, Anderson, IN ($10 Sew Biz Gift Certificate). Thanks to everyone who came to our store during the Celebration. It was great to have so many of you stop in to shop and visit!

We would also like to congratulate Mariann Durkes of W. Lafayette, IN. She is the winner of our $30 Gift Certificate from the Key Tag Club drawing.
